I joined HMS Devonshire, a County-class cruiser in the Home Fleet, on 16 September 1944. For
the next nine months we operated out of Scapa Flow, the naval base in the Orkneys north of
Scotland which had been home to Jellicoe’s Grand Fleet during World War I and harboured the
main units of the Home Fleet throughout the second conflict.
Brian Hanrahan, who died on December 20 aged 61, was a long-serving and much-respected foreign correspondent for the BBC and became a familiar face to television viewers during the Falklands war in 1982.

Here you can view some mighty sailors…the Good, Bad & Ugly. Happy times and not so happy times. We lived in messes the size of broom cupboards and some ships that were well past their sale by date. BUT we put up with it and done our jobs! And That IS a Sailor.
A few pics of the lads at their best.
