I went to odessa during my time on Devonshire, and resided in 3E mess, The one thing I will never forget is the marching we did behind the Marines band in Malta, practicing for the Russian visit strange! we always were marching in the midday sun, still built up a powerful thirst for the run ashore. Goodtimes were had by all even if the officer of the watch did shout slip too early while I was Sea Boats Crew.

I was on the Devonshire (OEMech1 - in 2 Mess) from 1976 up to decommissioning it in 1978. Hated almost every minute of it but still see one of the tiffs from that period. I was drafted to 'A' Turret. I hate guns so I wrote to my new DO and told hime to get me another job (honest)....By the time I joined, everyone had been shuffled around so that I could go into the ERs and BRs department. True, but the short version!!

Everyone thought I would never do any good after I resigned to go into Civvy Street early, but I eventually started my own consultant's business and now I live in Spain. (Never went there on a ship).

Regards to all......

My daughter has just found this site and reading it brings back lots of happy memories. From Devonshire I went straight to the Kent and although I enjoyed my 18 months on her Devonshire remains my favourite

Hi Nobby, yes it was Hector that crashed - no loss of lives on this one though. After the controlled landing on the solent and undignified recovery, Hetcor was used as a training aid at HMS Deadalus before being scrapped.

Any news from other flight members - Knocker White, Paddy Clark, Kevin Shaw, Dave Gurr, Jeff Wyatt, Mac Mackenzie, Mick Davidson, Dave Smith, John Bibby - I have more faces but can't remember names!
