30 years ago today the Sheff was hit. Sam Salt proved himself to be a humble, caring and devoted member of the crew - not so much the Captain of the ship, but a man who passionately cared and to whom every man mattered. I was on the Hermes in the sickbay receiving the injured when he appeared in the bay, just wanting to provide comfort, support and help for his men. A true gentleman from whom so many lessons could be learnt by those who hold any degree of power or control today. A truly sad loss all round.

Rip Sam and take the failure of the weapons officer with you. Coffee was so much more important.

I was serving on the Sheffield the day we got hit. Agree with all the nice comments.
Sam Salt was the most respected captain i served under in my 22 years. I am proud to have been a member of that crew.
RIP
